Outbound has no servers and no account. Your prompts stay on your Mac.
In short
- Outbound collects nothing about you.
- It makes no network requests. It works offline.
- No analytics, no ads, no crash reports, no built-in updater.
What Outbound stores
- Your prompts and categories, in one file:
~/Library/Application Support/Outbound/Library.json. - Each prompt keeps its title, text, category, and the dates it was made and last changed.
- Your shortcut, in the app preferences.
- Open at login is kept by macOS, and is off until you turn it on.
- If the file cannot be read, it is moved aside and kept. It is never deleted.
Permissions
- Accessibility lets Outbound paste for you. It sends one ⌘V to the app in front, only after you pick a prompt.
- It does not watch your typing, read other apps, or see your screen.
- Without Accessibility, Outbound copies the prompt and you paste it yourself.
- Files are read only when you choose them to import.
The clipboard
- Using a prompt puts its text on the clipboard, so you can paste it again.
- Outbound reads the clipboard only when you paste into it.
- Clipboard managers you run may save what Outbound copies.
Your control
- Back up or move your prompts by copying the file.
- A deleted prompt leaves the file on the next save. ⌘Z brings it back while Outbound is open.
- To remove everything, quit Outbound, delete the app, and delete the Outbound folder in Application Support.
Changes
- If this ever changes, this page will say so first.
- Questions go to GitHub issues.
